The Amsterdam School furniture can often be recognized by its organic shapes and characteristic decorative elements. A much used shape is the star that often appears in the veneered tops of tables and we see that beautifully depicted in this side table.

Design

This table has a dynamic shape, partly due to the arched legs that clamp both the top and the smaller round top between them. Each leg is decorated on the outside with an inverted teardrop shape and a pattern of squares, all dark colored.

The edge of the table is about five centimeters thick and is beautifully veneered on the top and the oak shows a strong natural stripe pattern. In the middle we see the star shape with eight points and the spaces between the points are veneered with coromandel.

Condition

The condition is very good and has signs of wear that are normal for an object of this age. This includes scratches and discolorations."
